Nature and causes of kinship formation among the Awi society from emic perspectives
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the nature and causes of kinship formation among the Awi society from emic perspectives. The study employed an ethnographic research method and a triangulated data, which allowed answering the questions riased are collected through interviews, focus group discussion and observation. The data were analayzed using thematic analaysis method. The findings revealed that kinship among the Awi has both biological and social component. The study showed that kinship in this society is a way of helping, solving economic problems, strengthening social relations, restoring psychological damage and maintaining traditional order. The study further identified that among the Awi society reseans for the formation of kinship are to create conducive trade and trade envieroment, to fight back the sense of isolation, loneliness (aphathy) and poverty.
