Abstract

Poverty is a central challenge in Ethiopia. Public policies to alleviate poverty could be effective and sustainable only when they are directed to address the underlying causes of poverty in the country. The central theme of this paper is that sustainable poverty reduction requires both robust economic growth and fair distribution of income accompanied by fundamental reforms in the political institutions of the country.
